Well after many hours of different attempts to resolve the problem, the "light bulb went on"! The night after I setup the "scan to network folder" option, we were having some difficulty with our network so I reset our DSL modem and router. That cleaned up the network problems with the devices. Problem is it apparently broke something with the communications between the scanner and computer. A simple re-boot of the computer tonight and wa-la, the original public scan that I setup was functional again and I could create new "scan to" profiles!!!
