Did you install the full hp driver that comes with the CD? If you did, may try download and install the latest: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL34584/al-109394-2/DJ3050_J610_1315.exe
If that still doesn't work, probably some library on the XP is corrupted and you may be out of luck as Microsoft is stopping support of XP. I would suggest try run Windows update while you still can, and hopefully there is an update that patches it up.
