Hello jadeast,
"Scanner Failure" error would show up if there is a component failure in scanning mechanism.
This issue can be fixed by trying the below steps .
- While the printer is ON, Open the scan lid and check if the Scan carriage moves and emits light.
- If the scan carriage does not move, then try below steps...
- Unplug the power cord from back of the printer while the printer is ON
- Wait for 60 full seconds,
- Connect the power cord dirctly to a Wall Outlet ( bypass the Surge / power strip ) and then to printer.
- The Printer should power On automatically, else hit the ON button on the printer.
- Wait until printer is Idle, then try making a photo Copy.
If issue still persists, then it could be an printer hardware issue and the printer has to be serviced.
If your printer is Out Of Warranty, you may call HP Tech Support to check if there is a Trade in option.
If you are in US , the toll free # is 1-800-474-6836 .
If you are not in US , then log on to www.hp.com , at bottom-left corner there is a world map icon, click on it and then select the region you belong to, which would then provide support options for you for that region.
