I am so sorry for the frustration. If you live in the US, you can call HP technical support at 1-800-474-6836 or click here to find a support center in your region. Support is fairly affordable and hopefully they can take over your PC and you can sit back finally and let them work. They may not be able to answer the two questions you just asked me but return back to me if they can't and I will see what I can find for you in regards to a log file and any other fax software.
