I use windows 7 64 bits on this 7410 multifunctional.
The problem is caused by a timing problem. The printer wants to heaten the lamp for x seconds to get the right color temperature for scanning. This process takes longer then the communication protocol time out is set to. There is mostly no restart needed. Just rescan.
I always start scanning with a single page. After that the lamp is heated and i have no problems anymore.
There are som hidden key instructions on bios level of the printer. Years ago a HP technician did something that made most communication problems go away. I did not write down the keys that i need to press.
I use also Win XP en 8.1 that need the same procedure.
Fine multifunctional, apart from the wifi that stopped working (printer worked after i removed the connector) and some sounds that seem to depend on the fax (that is completely disabled). It still works on my UTP cabled network.
