Scanjet 8270 reinstallation on XP system gives access is denied. The permissions tool did not help.

I am reinstalling the Scanjet 8270 software from the original CD on an HP XP system.

I have an error "access is denied" same as this post:

Same little dialog box he posted.

So I have the same problem.  This is an XP system which is supported with that software.

I ran the HP permissions tool from HERE:

But that did not change anything even though it is purported to solve this for 90% of users.  I have been looking for an installer log for this software but I haven't found it.

BTW, the first thread is marked solved, but it's not solved, he gave up because someone said that scanner was not supported on Windows 7.  Clearly since this is an XP system I do *not* have that problem.

Does anyone have an actual solution, or steps to troubleshoot?
