This solution reminds me of (decades past) removing the toner cartridges from our old (then new) laser printers.  We would "give them a shake" and extend the time we could use that cartridge.

I admit I have never lifted, turned over, and "given a good shake" to any printer.

I am glad it worked.

Thanks for posting back.

I replied about this earlier in the thread.

I have not used MS Fax and Scan and that issue would not be replicable/applicable because I'm reporting using the inherent cover page feature from HP Printer Assistant.

When you select the HP cover page from within the application, there's no way to save it. It either gets sent or it doesn't.  There's no way to send that HP cover page with another application.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.
You will need the FULL featured sofwtare (not HP Smart)

Check out these resources

Installing the Software for HP Officejet Pro 8730

(Important : select 8710 instead of 8730)

After installing the FULL featured software, enable scan to computer:

Scan to Computer (New UI)

Other useful resources:

HP Officejet Pro 8700, 6900 series Setup Wizard

HP Officejet Pro 8710 / 8720 /8730 /8740 : Copy & Scan a 2 sided document using the ADF

Scan to Email setup and use  (HP Officejet Pro 8700 series)

Hope that helps.

No, this is a printer in front of all..

If scanning does not work, that might be related to the error condition shown on the screen and may not be related.

If the printer show any error you would not be able to access the screen to perform a such, if you may bypass any error and access the Scan to Memory Card feature you may give it a try.

Also, the scanner mechanism might be defective, you may try following Step 3: Check the scanner bar functionality below and see if that may help:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8620-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5367611/document/c00587971

If you cannot complete this task due to any error condition, nothing much can be done without resolving that error condition first...

Hi,

HP Scan 3 is incompatible with Mojave, it is intended for earlier operating system versions.

From your Applications folder or its HP sub-folder delete any existing HP Scan, HP Scan 3 or HP Easy Scan application, delete it by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.

Next, install your scanner software for Mojave by following HP Easy Start below:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip

Now scan using the HP Easy Scan application within your applications folder.

Shlomi

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93

If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you so much for the quick response. It was not necessary for me to try downloading additional software as I finally figured out that it was the file format causing the problem. This particular software defaults to jpeg and will not support multi-page single files, even when you select "add pages" or "append existing file". It is necessary to re-select PDF every single time scan as there is no option to change the default and you can not append an existing file or it will revert to jpeg.

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!

Enabling Scan to computer using HP Utility may resolve the issue. Here is how to do it:

1.) On your Mac, click Finder, click Applications, click the Hewlett-Packard or HP folder, then double-click HP Utility. (If HP Utility is not available, download and install HP Utility from here

2.) Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer, then make sure the Enable Scan to Computer check box is selected.

3.) Try to scan.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi I have already tried step 4 that you have suggested and it is still not working.  I am using Windows OS and I use HP Smart Application when i am scanning. Do you have any further reccomendations?

Try alternate methods of scanning.

HP and Microsoft have developed tools and apps to scan from a Windows computer. These apps include the HP Scan and Capture app, Windows Paint, and the Windows Scan app.

  • HP Smart app (Windows 10): Search the Microsoft Store for HP smart to find and install this app. For more information, go to Using the HP Smart App (Windows 10).

  • HP Scan and Capture app (Windows 10, 8): Scan documents or photos from the printer or webcam. A full feature driver must be installed on the computer. For more information, go to Using the HP Scan and Capture App (Windows 8 and 10).

  • Windows Scan app (Windows 10, 8): Search the Microsoft Store for windows scan to find and install this app.

  • Microsoft Paint (All Windows versions): Search Windows for paint, and then open the Paint desktop app. Click File or the menu icon  , and then click From scanner or camera.

  • Windows Fax and Scan (All Windows versions): Search Windows for fax to open the desktop app, and then click New Scan.

  • Webscan utility (network printers): Obtain the printer IP address and use it to open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) in a web browser. On your printer's website, click Webscan on the Scan tab.

Let me know the outcome.

Cheers :)

Re: Email credentials no longer work (all suggested fixes fail)

I've been following this one.

I can get my scanner to pass the test and send one scan, but then it fails all subsequent attempts to scan.

I know I have the gmail part setup correctly because like I said I scan one time, and sometimes get the verfication to work.

I updated to the latest firmware and still have a very frustrating problem.
