To answer your question there are various solutions to the issue you are describing, because there are different things that could have caused the issue you are describing. Permissions on your computer and or router could cause this. Issues with the software installed and/or the configuration of that software can cause this as well.

 

The first thing I would recommend that you do is to ensure that this Windows update is fully installed along with the associated update 2884846. One of the things that the first Windows update resolves is "When you scan and send a document from a Multifunction Print (MFP) device by using the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol to a file share on a Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2-based computer, the scan file cannot be saved to the file share and you receive an error message indicating that send operation failed."
