A friend of mine, has also a problem with scanning, on his hp photosmart 5520 on a XP (32bit) system conected directly with USB 1,5m lengt cable. The system worked perfectly but today it has stopped without something that has been changed or nothing that was updated
The problem he has is:
* Cannot scan from hp photosmart 5520 to pc conected directly with USB (but with hp software scanning from pc to hp photosmart 5520 does work)
* Cannot install newest Firmware (always the popup that maybe a paperloader is stuck, or maybe not conected etc etc) So the only thing i can think of, is that he has "no connection" trough usb, but that just not possible, because otherwise i cannot scan with pc from hp photosmart 5520
* When pushin on scanning on hp photosmart 5520 system, you hear a scanning sound for short time, but then it keeps endless loading spinning or something
ive tried several trick of several posts that were told on this forum.
such as:

* Hp docter (no problems detected)
* and so on
I have done so far on a xp system conected with usb directly, with internet security and firewall off;
- System restore to an older point
- Replaced usb in diffrent ports
- checked usb cable and tried new one
- Install from CD Full feature (afterwards deinstall)
- Install from online full feature (afterwards deinstall to try new options that several post on forum sugested)
- installed only basic from CD as well as online version
- cleaned temp files and system, checked and repaired registery and so on and on
- Checked hardware driver on errors but everything works OK
- Removed hardware usb manually in configuration
- Installed latest version of Adobe flash player
- and some other steps i have forgotten.
I have tried everything for several hours, and i have no more clues what todo anymore.
I think its strange that when you can scan from pc to hp photosmart 5520 but not in other direction, that part i just dont get it. Its just to strange for words...
I suggested my friend (as my father in law but thats just another problem/story) that if you want to buy a HP all in one, buy at least above the 180-200 euros... because both people when spending less then 100euros on a hp all in one system... guarantee you are fxckt, and it will be costing more if you buy again a new one. And looking over the internet their both cheaper systems of hp all in one are well known to explode of bugs bugs bugs....
Is there a decent tool, that can fix something, or maybe to adress the usb port corectly with the system/driver/software or whatever??
