Re: scanner problem

Hi PlainSpeak,

I am not certain I understand. You said before that "HP Scan cannot be opened because of a problem", but now when you tried the information I provided you get the same message?

What exactly happens when you try scanning with the Apple Print and Scan? Do you get an error message, if so what does it say?

  1. Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
  2. Click the Applemenu, and then click System Preferences
  3. Click Print & Scan.
  4. Click your printer in the left pane.
  5. Click Scan, and then click Open Scanner.
  6. Click Show Details. The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.

  7. Change any scan settings as necessary, and then click Scan

The error that says "HP Scan cannot be opened because of a problem" is occurring because the HP Scan you are using is not compatible with 10.9. You can download new software if it is available but if it is not you have to scan using the Apple method.

If you are experiencing an issue using the Apple Scan as well, there is an issue with the operating system. Try resetting the printing system and repairing disk permissions.  Follow the steps in this thread (Message 20 and 21) > Reset Printing System, Repair Disk Permissions, Check for apple updates, and add the printer back

Please let me know how this works out for you.
