Re: Address Unreachable when attempting to scan

Hey

Welcome to the HP Support Forum. I hope you enjoy your experience here. :robothappy:

I understand you're unable to scan to Chromebook using your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this and have some suggestions that might help.

Just for your reference, the following steps show exactly how you use this scanning feature and set it up.  Note the security certificate error workaround that's presented below:

Scan from the Embedded Web Server (Network only)

Follow these steps to scan a document from the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).

The following video demonstrates how to scan over a network in using the printer's embedded web server (EWS) - view the video on YouTube.

In order to access the EWS, you need the IP address assigned to your printer on your network. You can find the IP address in multiple ways, though options vary by printer.
  • Press the Wireless button on the printer control panel to view the network settings.
  • Access the Network menu on the printer control panel.
  • Print a network configuration page or wireless network test page.
For more details on these options or for instructions on finding your printer's IP address, click here to go to the support page for your printer and search for steps to print a network configuration page or to access network information on the control panel.
  • Prompted to enter your printer name/number in the search box?
  1. From the Desktop, open an Internet browser such as Internet Explorer.
  2. In the address bar, type the product IP address given on the test page, and then press Enter on your keyboard.
Figure : Example IP address in the browser address bar
Image: Example IP address in browser address bar
     NOTE:
Make sure that pop-up windows are not blocked in the browser. If pop-up windows are blocked, a message under the address line explains how to allow pop-up windows. If you try to scan with pop-up windows blocked, the scan fails.
    The EWS\Printer information page opens.
    • I got a security certificate error. What do I do?
If a 'There is a problem with this website's security certificate' message displays in the Web browser when you try to open the EWS, or when you navigate within the EWS, click 'Continue to this website (not recommended)'.
       NOTE:
Choosing 'Continue to this website (not recommended)' will not harm your computer while you navigate within the printer's EWS. If you encounter this error outside of your HP printer's EWS, your computer could be at risk.
If the Web browser fails to open the EWS after you click 'Continue to this website (not recommended)', refresh the browser window.
  3. Continue to the next step.
Step three: Scan with the EWS
  1. Browse to the Scan tab of the EWS.
     NOTE:
Webscan might need to be enabled before you try to scan. Click the Settings tab, and then locate Webscan under administrative tools to enable the function.
  2. Specify the document type, color preference, paper size, resolution, quality, and brightness.
  3. Load the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass or in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) tray if your printer has one.
  4. Click Start Scan.

Has your printer's IP address changed since you've lost the ability to open your printer's Embedded Web Server in Chrome?  Touch your printer's wireless icon and verify whether your printer is still connected to your network and make a note of its IP address.  Naturally, if you've lost connection you'll need to run the printer's Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect to your network.  Additionally, if the IP address has changed, you can start using that instead to access the Webscan feature that you were enjoying previously.

I'm not certain the Google error you're reporting would be a factor, but please respond to this post with your troubleshooting results and let me know whether or not my suggestions helped.  If these basic steps don't work I'll be happy to provide more in-depth troubleshooting tips.  If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to say "You rock!" by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution.

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!  :robotvery-happy:

Re: Can not receive fax. Using one phone number with voice mail

Hi @blazerteal,

I have 2 part answer for your concern w.r.t. faxing.

Fax line Condition Test :

If it still fails, please follow the last step (Fax line condition) mentioned in this document

Voicemail:

As you have indicated that you have voicemail, it could be 2 scenario's which is either voicemail provided by the telephone service provider or if you have a physical answering machine.

If the voicemai is provided by the telephone service provider then the printer will not recieve any fax's. Reason being the incoming fax message is stored by the voicemail & the printer never gets the message. if this is the scenario, you need to acticvate distictive ring pattern (DRP).

  • Distinctive ring service through your telephone company, which allows you to have two phone numbers on one phone line. Each number has a different ring pattern. When the fax printer detects a specified ring pattern assigned to it, it answers the call and receives the fax.

Note: DRP will not change your existing telephone number, instead provide an additional dedicated number for fax with the same telephone line. Contact your telephone service provider for futher details.

If you have a physical answering machine, please connect downstream as shown below

Downstream fax connection_2.PNG

Do check the above scenario's as to which one matches your settings. All the best!

When I save an OCR file, sometimes it is editable and sometimes it is not.  Those that cannot be edited come out with misspellings, changed margins, and irregular spacing.  Any suggestions?  Thank you, Gail

Re: Cannot connect with scanner

The problem seems to be linked to the IP address used for the scanner/printer. My printers IP address had changed but it was not updated in Windows.  I could ping the printer but could not print t or scan from the printer.

The following fix worked for me;

1. Goto Devices & Printers in the Control Panel

2. Right click "HP LaserJet Professional M1217nfw MFP"

3. Select "Printer Properties" NOT "Properties"

4. Click on Ports

5. Add port

6. Select "Standard TCP/IP Port"

7. Obtain the IP Address of your printer from the LCD display, it displays it periodically

7. Use the IP Address of your printer as the Printer Name and the Port Name

8. Select this port for your printer

9. Save and test

yeahhh,

there is a manual duplex function. i bought the printer and now im very happy with it (so far).

while fixing a connection problem, caused by avira´s safeguard, i tried so scan 3 sheets of paper, doublesided, the program did the sorting.

so, it is possible to scan duplex, just turn around all pages at once, when it is finished.

cheers

Hi , and welcome to the HP Forums!

I see you are having troubles with your Officejet 6700, I would be happy to help you work towards a solution. Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing a quality issue. Does this issue present itself when you copy something from the printer, or when you scan something from the printer to the computer?

If you are experiencing an issue with scanning to the computer, are you initiating the scan from the front panel of the printer, or from the software on the computer? Also, what scan software are you using to scan from?

If you are copying something directly from the printer, please perform a self test page from the printer, then copy it to compare the quality. You can use the following steps to print a Quality Diagnostic page:

  • Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  • On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display more options.
  • Touch Setup (). The Setup Menu displays.
  • Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Reports.
  • Touch Print Quality Report. The test page prints.

- Source

  • Please place this page on the scanner glass and perform a copy.

Also, do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause.   Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector

In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector

^ This is not limited to Laserjet printers.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi ,

I see that you are having issues with Scanning to a Network folder. I would like to help you.

It may have something to do with the Admin Rights or something blocking it. I would suggest to turn off any Antivirus Software to test the scanning.

If the issue persists, try to Unlock Hidden Administrator Account and test the scanning again.

  1. Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD.
  2. CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'.
  3. Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter.
  4. Next, close CMD and restart your computer.
  5. When your computer comes on log into the new account that should show. It will be called Administrator and will not have a password on it.
  6. If your computer automatically logs into your account after restart than go to your start menu click the arrow beside 'shutdown' and choose 'switch user'. Now log into the Administrator account we just unlocked.
  7. Under the Administrator account, try scanning again to a network folder.
  8.  To turn off the Admin account start back at step 1 and type in net user administrator /active:no.

Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor, it will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it.

What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)

If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below.

If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know. Thank You.

I am having the same problem with the HP Envy 4500 on Windows 7.  I've updated drivers, gone through troubleshooting info, and nothing has helped.

Hey ,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I would like to assist you today with resolving the Auto-Crop issue that you're experiencing when scanning from the front panel of your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer to your Windows Vista computer. Thank you for including the document with the steps that you had previously completed in your effort to resolve this issue. Those are most certainly the correct steps to follow. The front panel Scan feature on your HP Envy is designed to mimic the scan settings configured under the Printer Assistant HP Scan software on your computer. Because this is not happening, I am going to have you check the HP Scan software on your computer to confirm if the Auto-Crop feature is still disabled.

1. On the desktop of your computer please click on the HP Envy Printer Assistant

scan 1.png

2. When the HP Printer Assistant opens click on Scan a Document or Photo

scan 2.png

3. Under HP Scan choose the appropriate Scan method on the left (Photo to File). Click the Advanced option on the bottom right. Does Auto Crop show as enabled or disabled?

scan 4.png

If you have configured the Auto-Crop feature for photos, and you scan a PDF that crops, you may need to check the Advanced settings for Document to File to verify if PDFs are configured for Auto-Cropping.

Please let me know if the Auto-Crop feature under the HP Scan software still shows as configured properly. I look forward to hearing from you! :smileyhappy:
